Sostack President-elect of Supply Chain Management Council in Houston

Sostack is administrator of the Logistics & Services Division within the ASC Procurement & Logistics Department.  He oversees operations at the company’s logistics facility at Bush Intercontinental Airport, the key staging area for the transport of material to Saudi Arabia and other parts of the world.  He also manages the Company’s business travel, maintaining a full-service travel agency.

Throughout his busy 30-year career in materials management, Sostack always seemed to find a way to give back to others in the field – helping newcomers learn the ropes and, as well, seasoned professionals adapt to rapid changes.

A vision of excellence

“I feel honored to take on this leadership role, to collaborate with my fellow chapter members to help the supply chain industry excel," Sostack said. "There have been so many developments in this field over the past few years.  Automation, Robotics, Big Data and other technologies are transforming the way we package, ship and track materials.  More than ever, there is not only a need to know ‘what’s out there’ – but how adapting these new technologies can make a difference in achieving our corporate goals.”

Taking on the helm of president of the CSCMP Houston Chapter is not new to Sostack, as he once held that position about a decade ago and has also served on the board of directors.  He said returning to the top spot again is even more of an honor.  No doubt his commitment and achievements earned his return.

Sostack said that CSCMP and ASC share a similar mission.  “ASC is a learning organization,” he said, “ASC has always held education and professional development as a top priority.  This is in direct alignment with CSCMP’s priorities, which also seeks to provide an abundant learning environment for its members.”

CSCMP was founded in 1963.  Local chapters - known as Roundtables – host hundreds of local events annually, including educational and networking events, facility tours, and outreach to university programs.  Houston is one of 80 Roundtables globally.

Sostack is involved in other industry organizations.  A noted speaker, he has presented at management forums and trade groups in about a dozen cities over the past few years, addressing such topics as corporate travel procurement and logistics automation.  He is also a Corporate Fellow at the University of Houston - Downtown Marilyn Davies School of Business, Supply Chain Management and International Business disciplines, co-teaching logistics to graduate students with a tenured professor.
